26/07/2003 16:01 --- Kanaikin pulled out from gold There was a very dramatic men´s 10000 metres track walking race. Russian´s Vladimir Kanaikin, last year´s World Youth Champion got the second warning in the beginning of the last lap after he had kicked strongly. Only less than 50 metres before the finishing line Kanaikin was disqualified. His technique was so bad that the decicion was unquestionable.

24/07/2003 23:33 --- Inonescu a big surpriser Men´s only final on Thursday, 10000 metres was a very exciting race. After 6000 metres there were only four men who had chanches to win and in the beginning of the last km there were only three of them as Spain´s Alejandro Fernandez could not follow Denmark´s Mohammed Bashir, Russias Alexey Reunkov and Romanian´s Marius Ionescu.

24/07/2003 18:19 --- Petrova won first gold in EJCH 2003 Tampere -We didn't work together with Anna Bragina (RUS), even though we were first and secound. We come from different parts of Russua and don't even do training together. I came here to win, said Petrova after the competition.

The statistics are prognosing him an "easy" victory, because he is the only one who has thrown over 80 metres (80,07 in Kuortane last Sunday) and none of his opponents have even thrown over 75 metres.

06/06/2003 13:08 --- Wirkkala became the javelin favourite Finland´s Teemu Wirkkala became the strongest favourite to win the Junior European title at Javelin by throwing U20´s best result in the World 78,39 in Copenhagen.
Wirkkala, the U18 World Champion in 2001, set the 4th ever best mark in Finland. Only Juha Laukkanen 79,46, Aki Parviainen 80,94 and Harri Haatainen have thrown better than he. Those three Finns have also held the U20´s World Record with their results.>>> |

Some of the junior champions have needed 5 - 6 years - or maybe even more to catch gold in senior class, but some of them have done it very quickly.>>> |

22/01/2003 13:59 --- Tero and Hannu-Heikki - Pyrintö´s own hopes Tampereen Pyrintö has two strong canditates to represent Finland at the European Junior Championships at their home stadium. They are javelin thrower Tero Järvenpää and Hannu-Heikki Turunen at high hurdles.
Järvenpää made his debute at international championships at the age of 17 and Turunen tries to follow him in Tampere.>>> |

Manninen knows what kind of an attitude a junior athlete must have in order to get succes and and enjoy an international athmosphere.

29/10/2002 10:48 --- Tampere invites European Juniors in 2003 The 17th European Junior Championships (U'20) in athletics will be held in Tampere in Finland on July 24th - 27th 2003.
For the first time each country can send three athletes to every event, if they have reached the entry standards. That's why some 750 athletes are expected to perform in Tampere. In addition some 250 other team members will also attend.>>> |
